About Ureteroscopy

(Urology)

Ureteroscopy uses a thin scope passed through the urinary passage to reach and treat stones lodged in the ureter. Healic uses endoscopic stone fragmentation and basket removal when needed, often placing a temporary DJ stent to keep urine flowing while swelling settles.

Patients commonly visit for weak or interrupted urine stream, urinary tract infections (utis), urinary retention (in severe strictures). Our urology team checks causes such as diet rich in oxalates, salt, or protein, low fluid intake, family history of kidney stones and explains suitable options including rigid urs, flexible urs with transparent pricing and follow-up support.

Types of Ureteroscopy

Understanding the type helps our specialists choose the safest, most effective treatment for your condition.

  • Rigid URS

A straight rigid scope used to reach and break stones in the lower and mid-ureter — excellent visibility and quick stone clearance.

  • Flexible URS

A bendable scope used to reach stones higher up in the ureter and kidney (RIRS), allowing laser dusting of stones without any external cut.

Surgical Methods at Healic

Different patients need different approaches. Our surgeons choose the right method for your condition, age and recovery goals.

  • Semi-Rigid Ureteroscopy (URS)

A slim semi-rigid scope is passed through the urinary passage to reach stones in the lower and mid-ureter — broken with pneumatic or holmium laser and removed without any external cut.

  • Flexible Ureteroscopy / RIRS

A bendable scope reaches stones higher up in the ureter and inside the kidney; holmium laser dusts the stone into fine fragments that pass naturally in urine.

  • Laser Lithotripsy

Holmium:YAG laser fibre is used through the scope to fragment hard or impacted stones into tiny dust, allowing complete clearance in a single sitting.

  • Stone Basketing

A nitinol basket is used through the ureteroscope to grasp and remove larger fragments under direct vision, ensuring a stone-free ureter at the end of the procedure.

  • DJ Stent Placement

A soft temporary stent is placed from kidney to bladder to keep urine flowing and relieve swelling after the procedure — removed in OPD after 1–2 weeks.
